Why does a steep roof cost more?
Two reasons. It has more surface area than a shallow roof over the same footprint, and above about 7/12 crews need staging and fall protection, which slows the work. Most contractors apply a surcharge from 7/12 upward.
How accurate is this estimate?
It is a budget range, not a quote. Regional labour rates, deck repairs, flashing, chimneys, skylights and permits move the real number substantially. Always get three written quotes.
