Rise = half span × (pitch ÷ 12). Add the wall height and the heel height to get the ridge height above grade. A 24 foot span at 6/12 rises 6 feet.

How much headroom do I need for a loft conversion?

About 7 feet 6 inches of clear standing height over a usable portion of the floor. In the UK the working figure is 2.2 to 2.3 metres. A shallow pitch usually means dormers or a re-roof to get there.

What is heel height?

The vertical depth of the truss where it sits on the wall plate. A raised heel truss gives room for full insulation depth over the wall top plate, which is where most roofs lose heat.
