Is the result the length of board I should buy?
No. The figure is the line length measured from the inside of the birdsmouth along the top edge, plus the tail. Buy the next standard length up, cut one pattern rafter, test it on the building, then cut the rest from that pattern.
What is the ridge deduction?
The theoretical rafter runs to the centre line of the ridge. Half the ridge thickness has to come off the top cut so the two rafters meet on the faces of the ridge board. For a 1.5 inch ridge at 6/12 that is about 13/16 of an inch.
How far apart should rafters be?
Sixteen or twenty four inches on centre are the usual choices. Spacing depends on span, lumber species and load, so check a span table or an engineered design before you commit.
